By Faith
9 Nicodemus said to him, “How can these things be?” 10 Jesus answered him, “Are you the teacher of Israel and yet you do not understand these things? 11 Truly, truly, I say to you, we speak of what we know, and bear witness to what we have seen, but you do not receive our testimony. 12 If I have told you earthly things and you do not believe, how can you believe if I tell you heavenly things?

By Faith
It is only by faith that we believe these works of God. Our human reason cannot wrap itself around a God that does the infinite in plain and ordinary things like water or bread and wine. These works were promised long ago. Every prophesy comes to fruition in Jesus. The leaders of Israel knew the Old Testament and yet they could not believe. Even in earthly terms, the human heart resists. It is only by faith that we believe and understand this Word of God until eternal life. Thus, it is necessary that the Holy Spirit do heart replacement. The old, unbelieving heart must be removed, and a new heart, a clean heart and a right Spirit must be put in its place. Thanks be to God that this Holy Spirit does this great work in us. It is our faith that believes in Jesus and saves us. We are made heavenly. We are made children of God and receive life eternal in Jesus.
