The Light That Shines in the Darkness

12 Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” 13 So the Pharisees said to him, “You are bearing witness about yourself; your testimony is not true.” 14 Jesus answered, “Even if I do bear witness about myself, my testimony is true, for I know where I came from and where I am going, but you do not know where I come from or where I am going.

The Light That Shines in the Darkness
Jesus declares Himself the Light of the world. He is not one light among many, but the only Light that pierces the darkness of sin and death. The Pharisees challenged His testimony, but their judgment was clouded because they refused to see Him for who He is, the Christ, the Son of God. His words reveal both who He is and what He came to do: to bring life and salvation. The Light shines most clearly from the cross, where the world’s deepest darkness covered the land. There, the glory of God was revealed in what appeared weak and shameful. By His death, our sins were taken away; by His resurrection, His Light cannot be extinguished. We walk not by our own sight but by faith in the crucified and risen Lord. In Him, even our darkest nights are overcome by His eternal Light.
