A Little While
16 “A little while, and you will see me no longer; and again a little while, and you will see me.” 17 So some of his disciples said to one another, “What is this that he says to us, ‘A little while, and you will not see me, and again a little while, and you will see me’; and, ‘because I am going to the Father’?” 18 So they were saying, “What does he mean by ‘a little while’? We do not know what he is talking about.”

A Little While
The Lord Jesus goes to the Father. He says it is only a little while. By our standards, it is a long time. In our sorrow and our struggle we cannot understand what he is talking about. The Son goes to the Father and sends the Holy Spirit. He goes to plead for you. He goes to prepare a place for you. He does not leave you without the help you need. He sends the Holy Spirit who declares the wonders and the love of God to you. It makes no sense to our human reason, but it is for our good. Jesus promises that the time will be short. The time is perfect. He must die and rise again. He must ascend to the Father and return again. He must come in the Word and Sacraments. His plan is perfect and his timing is right.
