Sin Does Not Want to Be Revealed

When they came to Jacob…they told him all that had happened to them, saying, . . "But we said to him, `We are honest men; we have never been spies. We are twelve brothers, sons of our father. One is no more.’"
GENESIS 42:29-31

Sin Does Not Want to Be Revealed
Ignorance of sin necessarily brings with it ignorance of God, Christ, and the Holy Spirit and all things. . .. And if you want to engage successfully in theology and the study of Holy Scripture and do not want to run into a Scripture that is closed or sealed, you should learn above all to understand sin correctly, and the Epistle to the Romans should be your door and key to Scripture. Otherwise you will never penetrate to an understanding and knowledge of it. But when you have done this, you will understand what a great evil sin is. It is on account of sin that God sent His Son, in order that it might be purged away by the blood of the Son of God and that ineffable sacrifice. Therefore the evil itself must be indescribably great. But just as these brothers proceed obstinately to cover their sin, so that horrible plague and misery is raging throughout the world, because sin does not want to be laid bare and to be what it is. For it wants to be pure and clean, contrary to its nature. It wants to be beautiful.
