The Whole Armor of God
Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one; and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God,

The Whole Armor of God
Like a general encouraging his troops, Paul tells us that the victory is certain because Christ has already won the war, and He has made us well-prepared to stand with Him to face any last-ditch assaults. This famous picture sums up Paul’s letter to the church in Ephesus. The armor represents both a promise of divine protection and an exhortation to battle. In ancient legends, the weapons and armor of a hero could give certain victory to anyone who wore them. The armor Paul describes is not simply from God; it is God’s own armor, what He Himself wore in battle. Dressed in Christ’s armor, we look remarkably like Christ, for through Baptism, we are clothed with Him. And in Christ, we shall never be overtaken. The battle is won!
