Going To and Fro
Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan also came among them. The LORD said to Satan, “From where have you come?” Satan answered the LORD and said, “From going to and fro on the earth, and from walking up and down on it.”
Job 1:6-7

Going To and Fro
Satan, the accuser, never tires of tormenting and tempting God’s children. There is no place on this broken earth where he will not go to practice his evil ways. He goes “to and fro” looking at the hearts of man, looking for the good to corrupt and the evil to encourage. And he does not have to travel very far. The world is filled with men and women whose hearts are stained with sin. In fact all have “sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”
So where is one to find refuge from this adversary who “prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour”? There is but one place, the foot of the cross. We run to Christ’s cross and cling to it in faith, knowing the blood which falls from it is the blood of sacrifice. It is the blood which cleanses us from our sins. It is the blood which take Satan’s accusation of guilty and says the sentences is paid in full! It is this same blood and body which are offered at the altar which give forgiveness of sin, life, and salvation. So while the accuser roams “to and fro” looking for souls to corrupt, we stay put, at the foot of the cross, knowing we are forgiven and our souls secured.
