Everything But Trust

Everything But Trust
As Christians we have been given much, and therefore, “Everyone to whom much was given, of him much will be required.” (Luke 12:48)  This is no small thing.  In receiving the free gift of salvation, by grace through faith, we are forever changed.  No longer are we set against God in our evil ways.  We move from being children of the dark to children of the light.  A light which shines forth from Jesus.  We are given everything, material and physical blessings, our faith and salvation, the very trust we have in Christ as our Savior comes from Him.  And like Job, the devil sees in God’s creation all which is good and wants to destroy it.  He never tires of his temptations and troubles.  But even in the face of all the losses we might endue, there is one thing the devil cannot steal from you, your trust in God. For God has given you His Word to be with you until the end of the ages and it is in His Word where we rest secured from the devil.

The Word they still shall let remain
Nor any thanks have for it;
He’s by our side upon the plain
With His good gifts and Spirit.
And take they our life,
Goods, fame, child, and wife,
Though these all be gone,
Our vict’ry has been won;
The Kingdom ours remaineth. (LSB 656)
