In Abundance

For by these he judges peoples; he gives food in abundance. He covers his hands with the lightning and commands it to strike the mark. Its crashing declares his presence; the cattle also declare that he rises.

In Abundance
We know that we are blessed, even if we don’t always act like it.  God’s love and mercy are new every morning as we are given a new day to give Him thanks and praise.  As we read in the explanation of the fourth petition to the Lord’s Prayer, “God gives daily bread, even without our prayer, to all wicked people; but we pray in this petition that He would lead us to realize this and to receive our daily bread with thanksgiving.” God’s creation declares His presence and His greatness. And in abundance, we are taken care of. But it is not merely the physical aspects in which God blesses us, but also the spiritual. Our souls are refreshed daily. Through the Means of Grace God brings forth His love for us, delivering life-saving medicine in the form of water and Word, and bread and wine. Christ’s work on the cross for us is delivered to us every day as we return to our Baptism, a promise fulfilled.  The salvation won on Calvary is placed into our mouths as we kneel at the altar to receive Christ’s true body and blood, in, with, and under the bread and wine. In abundance, God’s gifts are given to us, and for all this, we are to pray, praise, and give thanks.
