Troubled in Spirit, Yet Faithful in Love
21 After saying these things, Jesus was troubled in his spirit, and testified, “Truly, truly, I say to you, one of you will betray me.” 22 The disciples looked at one another, uncertain of whom he spoke. 23 One of his disciples, whom Jesus loved, was reclining at table at Jesus’ side, 24 so Simon Peter motioned to him to ask Jesus of whom he was speaking.

Troubled in Spirit, Yet Faithful in Love
Jesus is troubled, not by weakness, but by love. In the Upper Room, He speaks of betrayal. This moment reveals both His divine foreknowledge and His deep human sorrow. Christ is not detached from the pain of sin; He feels it, bears it, and carries it all the way to the cross. The disciples are confused. One leans close to Jesus, seeking clarity. That’s what faith does, it draws nearer when the world grows dark. We too face confusion, betrayal, and uncertainty. Our sin betrays Him daily. Yet Christ does not turn away. He goes willingly to the cross, the very place where betrayal is transformed into forgiveness. In that moment of darkness, Jesus’ love does not fail. On the cross, He takes the sin that troubles Him, and yours, and nails it there forever. Draw near. He still speaks peace.
