The Better Covenant in Christ

3 For every high priest is appointed to offer gifts and sacrifices; thus it is necessary for this priest also to have something to offer. 4 Now if he were on earth, he would not be a priest at all, since there are priests who offer gifts according to the law. 5 They serve a copy and shadow of the heavenly things. For when Moses was about to erect the tent, he was instructed by God, saying, “See that you make everything according to the pattern that was shown you on the mountain.” 6 But as it is, Christ has obtained a ministry that is as much more excellent than the old as the covenant he mediates is better, since it is enacted on better promises.

The Better Covenant in Christ

Every high priest is appointed to offer sacrifices, but Christ, our great High Priest, surpasses them all. The earthly priests served in a sanctuary made by human hands, a shadow of the heavenly reality. Their sacrifices had to be repeated, year after year, because they could not truly atone for sin. Yet Christ entered the true sanctuary of heaven, offering Himself once for all on the cross. This better covenant, mediated by Christ, rests on better promises, not the temporary, conditional promises of the old covenant but the eternal forgiveness and reconciliation won by His blood. Through His sacrifice, the veil separating us from God has been torn. We now have direct access to the Father through Him. Rest today in the finished work of Jesus, the High Priest who serves in the heavenly sanctuary. His cross secures your salvation, and His promises will never fail. Let us trust in Him alone.
