Mighty in Strength
He is wise in heart and mighty in strength—who has hardened himself against him, and succeeded?—he who removes mountains, and they know it not, when he overturns them in his anger, who shakes the earth out of its place, and its pillars tremble;

Mighty in Strength
We have a God who can “remove mountains” and “shakes the earth out of its place.” This is God who is in fact mighty in strength. No one can stand against Him. And God uses His power often to remind us that He is our God. He parted a sea to save His people, and then lead them by a cloud in the day and a pillar of fire by night. He caused the sun to stand still and impenetrable walls to crumble by the mere blast of a horn. He has healed the sick, opened the ears of the deaf, and loosed the tongues of the mute. He even raises the dead, and He does it all so that we may know He is our God. How anyone could doubt is befuddling. But many do. They ignore His power and blind themselves with false hopes and delusions. But as mighty as all of these deeds are, they are still rejected by the faithless heart. Which is why God’s mightiest act is not in the moving of mountains or the healing of the sick. No, it is found in His Word. Not in a word of anger or rebuke, but as Elijah heard it, “And after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire the sound of a low whisper” (1 Kings 19:12). God’s Word comes to us and removes the mountains of doubt and despair. His Word comes to us and slays the devil, the world, and our own sinful flesh. The Word comes to us and gives us life eternal. Because “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not anything made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it” (John 1:1-5).
