The Perfect Sacrifice
5 Consequently, when Christ came into the world, he said,
“Sacrifices and offerings you have not desired,
but a body have you prepared for me;
6 in burnt offerings and sin offerings
you have taken no pleasure.
7 Then I said, ‘Behold, I have come to do your will, O God,
as it is written of me in the scroll of the book.’ ”
Heb 10:5–7

The Perfect Sacrifice
The sacrifices of the Old Testament pointed ahead to something greater. Bulls and goats could never truly take away sins, but they foreshadowed the perfect sacrifice to come, Christ Himself. The author of Hebrews reminds us that Jesus came in fulfillment of God’s will, taking on flesh to be the once-for-all sacrifice for sin. He did what the Law could not do. At the cross, Jesus fully submitted to the Father’s will, offering His own body in place of ours. His sacrifice was not just another offering but the very fulfillment of God’s plan for our salvation. Through His perfect obedience, our sins are atoned for, and we are made holy. Because of Christ’s willing sacrifice, we no longer rely on repeated offerings but rest in His finished work. In Him, we have full forgiveness and eternal life. Thanks be to God!
