He Passes by Me

Behold, he passes by me, and I see him not; he moves on, but I do not perceive him. Behold, he snatches away; who can turn him back? Who will say to him, ‘What are you doing?’
Job 9:11-12

He Passes by Me
Job laments that he cannot seem to reach God.  God, in Job’s estimation, is continually passing by him, unconcerned about Job’s situation. Buy is this the case? Is God an aloof deity, unconcerned or uninterested in His creation?  Does God just have bigger fish to fry than Job? Listen to God Himself for the answer. “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you.” (Jeremiah 1:5). “Why, even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not; you are of more value than many sparrows” (Luke 12:7). “Jesus wept” (John 11:35).  These verse but scratch the surface of God’s love and affection towards His creation. God does not pass by when we are in need. He does not look the other way in our times of suffering. It is precisely in these times in which God wants to draw us ever closer. This is why He sent His Son to die for us.  So that we could have a relationship with the Father.  Without Christ’s death and resurrection, we would forever be distant for God, unable to come near Him, but because of a desolate hill called Golgotha and an empty tomb we are forgiven. And in this forgiveness our Lord does not pass by but stops and gathers us to Himself.  He invites us into His home, in which there are many rooms.  “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go” (Joshua 1:9).
