Filled With Bitterness
If I summoned him and he answered me, I would not believe that he was listening to my voice. For he crushes me with a tempest and multiplies my wounds without cause; he will not let me get my breath, but fills me with bitterness.

Filled With Bitterness
Job feels he is without recourse, even if he were to be able to talk with God directly, he fears he would not be heard. He cannot understand what he has done to deserve such treatment. The bitterness within Job is beginning to swell. We often find ourselves in similar situations. Suffering and pain come to us seemingly out of nowhere and our first impulse is to blame God. “Why would You let this happen?” we ask. Jesus’ response, “You do not know what you are asking. Are you able to drink the cup that I am to drink?” (Matthew 20:22). For we may not always know why suffering comes upon us, we do know that Christ has suffered far greater for us. Jesus drank from the bitter cup of God’s wrath so that we would not have to. He made it possible for our broken relationship with the Father to be restored. His death and resurrection did just that! God does listen to your voice and response. In the only way which can help, the blood of Christ replaces the bitterness of death in your cup. You are forgiven, the bitter taste of death replaced by the sweet flavor of life eternal with the Father.
