The Rod of God
Why do the wicked live, reach old age, and grow mighty in power? Their offspring are established in their presence, and their descendants before their eyes. Their houses are safe from fear, and no rod of God is upon them. Their bull breeds without fail; their cow calves and does not miscarry.

The Rod of God
Punishment is never something we seek out; it is not something which is enjoyable. Yet we do deserve to be punished for our sins. We deserve the rod of God to come down upon us. Job understands this which is why he can’t understand why God seemingly allows for the wicked to be spared this punishment. Contrary to what his friends have said, the wicked seem to be getting away with sin scot-free. Where is the justice? The truth is that all are wicked, and none of us have a claim to innocence. And the only truly innocent Man to ever live, is the only one to truly be punished for sins of others and feel the complete abandonment and wrath of God. Christ had no sin of His own, yet the rod of God fell upon Him harder than anyone else. The punishment meant for us was taken by our Savior, so that we would be spared this rod. So now we are freed from sin, death, and the devil, so that we might live in forgiveness, forgiving those who have sinned against us. We are freed to live out God’s will for our lives by loving Him and loving our neighbor (Matthew 22:36-40). We need not fear God’s wrath, for in Christ we are forgiven.
