Cursed Ground
If my land has cried out against me and its furrows have wept together, if I have eaten its yield without payment and made its owners breathe their last, let thorns grow instead of wheat, and foul weeds instead of barley. The words of Job are ended.
Job 31:38–40

Cursed Ground
In a final plea of innocence Job asks that his land be cursed if he is lying and guilty of the sins which have brough such great suffering. Job feels that he is innocent and if he has sinned against God or man, it was not o the extend that it deserved this harsh treatment. This is our logic as well. We will readily admit that we are not perfect, but at least we are not like others, who have done much worse deeds than we ever did. We rationalize and justify our sins by trying to minimize them against what the world deems to be the most heinous of sins. But when we look to God’s Word, we see that all of us are guilty of the worst sins. No more proof is needed than to look at our broken world. We look to the pain and suffering, the struggle and strife which is constant in the lives of all humans and we realize we have done this. “[C]ursed is the ground because of you; in pain you shall eat of it all the days of your life; thorns and thistles it shall bring forth for you.” (Genesis 3:17-18). We live in an inherited world cursed by sin, in which we continue to curse ourselves with our own sins. And it was into this world which Jesus came into. It was in this cursed land where he grew up. It was on this cursed ground where he walked, worked, and slept. It was this cursed land which drops of blood stained crimson and He hung dying on a cross. Put there by cursed people. I was inside this cursed land where He stayed for three days. And He did it all to remove the curse from us. The curse of sin, death, and the devil were defeated as Christ’s blessed resurrection gained victory. The curse has been lifted and in faith we know the blessings of our God. What was once lost is now found, what was once broken is now made whole.
