Speak Sincerely

But now, hear my speech, O Job, and listen to all my words. Behold, I open my mouth; the tongue in my mouth speaks. My words declare the uprightness of my heart, and what my lips know they speak sincerely.
Job 33:1–3

Speak Sincerely
For the first time Job is addressed personally.  His three other friends never did and their words at times were often cold and distant. Not here. Elihu speaks directly towards Job in a sincere way. And as we will see Elihu will speak differently than Job’s other friends.  He will speak towards forgiveness and redemption. He will speak towards God’s love for Job and encourage steadfastness in his friend.  Oh, that we would approach others in this way. That when given the opportunity we would turn people towards God’s love and forgiveness, not towards acts of self-righteousness or pity.  We have a God who sent His only Son to die for us. We have a God who spoke sincerely through His Word as He tells us, “In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him. In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another” (1 John 4:9-12). And in this image of God, we are to go forward in love towards our neighbor.  We are to speak sincerely to them, admonishing with the Law when needed but always ready with the Gospel to sooth the troubled and repentant heart.  In Christ we have the answer which Job is looking for.  In Christ we have the truth, and the way, and the life. (John 14:6)
