God Speaks in Two Ways

Behold, in this you are not right. I will answer you, for God is greater than man. Why do you contend against him, saying, ‘He will answer none of man’s words? For God speaks in one way, and in two, though man does not perceive it.
Job 33:12–14

God Speaks in Two Ways
Job longed to have a conversation with God. He felt he could vindicate himself if given the opportunity.  He has waited for the opportunity to answer God, yet he feels God has not communicated with him. Elihu contends that God has in fact been speaking to Job, it is just that Job has not been listening. Even though Elihu may not be hundred percent correct, he is right in that God does indeed talk to all of us.  In the past He spoke to us through the prophets and miracles, but in these latter days He speaks to us through His son (Hebrews 1:1-2). In His Word God reveals Christ to us and Christ speaks through God’s Word.  In both His Law and Gospel, we hear from our Lord. His Law convicts us of our sins and shows us our need for a Savior.  His Gospel is rich in forgiveness and abounding in steadfast love as it reveals our Savior to us. Elihu is right in that God speaks and we often don’t hear. We allow the noise of the world to drown out His words of hope and salvation.  We hear His Law and ignore it because it doesn’t fit into our lifestyle.  We mix up His Law and Gospel believing we can be saved by our works or because of the Gospel the Law is no longer relevant in our lives. Hence the need to listen to His Word, day in and day out. Every chance we have to listen to His Word preached; every second we can spend in the Scriptures, the more opportunity we have for the Holy Spirit to strengthen our faith. For our hearts and minds to know God’s will as reveals through Jesus in the Bible.  God speaks and in faith we hear.
