Light of Life
Behold, God does all these things, twice, three times, with a man, to bring back his soul from the pit, that he may be lighted with the light of life. Pay attention, O Job, listen to me; be silent, and I will speak. If you have any words, answer me; speak, for I desire to justify you. If not, listen to me; be silent, and I will teach you wisdom.
Job 33:29–33

Light of Life
What would you do to save a loved one? A spouse? A child? A dear friend? Most of us would do just about anything to save those we love. That is an easy answer to give. What would you do to save someone who doesn’t want to be saved? Who hates you? Who doesn’t want anything to do with you? Who speaks ill of you every chance they get? The answer to this question might be a bit tougher for some of us to answer. We don’t mind when we see people “get what they deserve”. We think it only fair, especially when they are set against us or have wronged us in some way. This is because the darkness of sin still clouds our vision and our hearts. We don’t see everyone as who they are, a person created in the image of God who needs God’s love. How blessed we are to have been given faith. This free gift is ours certainly not because we deserved it, or we have lived a better life than those without faith. It is solely God’s gracious love for His creatures that we are saved. And in this faith our eyes are opened to see the true value of all people. The Light of life, Jesus Christ, shines to illumine to us the worth of every individual, even those we don’t get along with. His light scatters the darkness of our own sin to reveal the beauty of who He is and what He has done. We can now see that we are saved because of what He has done, and so are freed to love Him and our neighbor. He has brought back our souls from the pit at the cost of His own life. This is what the Light shows us. And in response we share God’s Word with all those He places in our lives so that through the Holy Spirit, the Light of life, Jesus Christ, made be known by all.
