The Coronation of Christ

Thou wilt crown Him with honor and adornment.
PSALM 8:5 (according to Luther's translation)
+
The Coronation of Christ
Kings are usually adorned when they are to put on a spectacle. . . On that day [Christ] will be decked out in the right dress and adornment, when He in glory with His elect and holy angels. As St. Paul says (2 Thessalonians 1:10), Christ will come "to be glorified in His saints and to be marveled at in all who have believed." And Christ Himself says (Matthew 25:31-32): "When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the angels with Him, then He will sit on His glorious throne. Before Him will be gathered all the nations." Then He will have around Him all the works of His fingers, a new heaven, moon, stars, and all creation. David means to express all this by the "honor and adornment" with which Christ is to be crowned. Therefore these words are a glorious prophecy of the resurrection of Christ and of His coronation, and this honor and adornment will have no end.
