God's Good Will

The LORD said, "Shall I hide from Abraham what I am about to do?"
GENESIS 18:17

God's Good Will
The words which the Lord prefixes as a sort of preface—"Shall I hide from Abraham what I am about to do?"—carry with them a delightful indication of His extraordinary good will. Moreover, there was need of these words in order to strengthen Abraham; otherwise the announcement of the divine wrath would have overwhelmed him. The repetition of the promise concerning the Seed and the blessing of all the nations of the earth pertains to the same thing. For if Abraham had not heard this promise from God first, he would have cast away the hope of offspring as well as of his own salvation in so horrible a display. Therefore it is an extraordinary proof of God's benevolence when the Lord declares that He cannot conceal anything from Abraham.
