God Will Be with You

Then Israel said to Joseph, "Behold, I am about to die, but God will be with you and will bring you again to the land of your fathers."

God Will Be with You
Look, I ask you, at Jacob's faith and at his extraordinary comfort. For when he says: "God will be with you," he has no doubt whatever that God will take care of them, just as we in the New Testament are certain that Christ will be with us until the end of the age (cf. Matthew 28:20). . . . Therefore we encourage fearful hearts in this manner: "Believe that you have been baptized into Christ. I absolve you from your sins in the name of Christ, who died for you and rose again, and said: 'Because I live, you will live also"' (John 14:19). This is solid and firm consolation. In it alone the godly can find rest. . .. This is the voice of a believer and of one who awaits the future life and resurrection from the dead with completely certain faith and hope. "My death will harm neither me nor you," [Jacob] says, "because God will be with you and with me. Yes, I will be with Him." So certain he is that God will console them and bring them back into the land of their fathers, as though they were all going up together now and the fact itself had been placed before their eyes. So great is the power of faith. It makes us live after we have died. And indeed in the very hour in which we begin to believe and to take hold of the Word we also begin to live in eternal life; for the Word of the Lord remains forever (1 Peter 1:25), and God, who speaks with us, is eternal and will be with us forever.
