Meant for Good

Joseph said to them, "Do not fear, for am I in the place of God? As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good."
GENESIS 50:19-20

Meant for Good
Now, because [Joseph] hears that his brothers have doubts about his pardon—although they have obtained the forgiveness and pardon of God and their father Jacob—he says: "If God has forgiven you, why would I not forgive all offenses?" And he adds an exceedingly serious statement: "It is indeed true that you meant evil against me, but God is wonderful in His counsels and has turned your worst thoughts to our advantage and the greatest good." Accordingly, he does not want them to deny or forget their sin and their plans to murder him. “But," he says, "behold the wonderful work of God, who has turned everything to the greatest service, in order that I might be of help to many nations which would have died of hunger and would not have learned to know God or heard His Word if I had not been sold by you into Egypt. Thus God has wrought the greatest good from such a great evil. Therefore I readily pardon you, since I see that through your very evil plan God has been of the greatest help to me and countless others." And this is what Paul says in Romans 8:28: "We know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose."
