Free Utterances

“I loathe my life; I will give free utterance to my complaint; I will speak in the bitterness of my soul. I will say to God, Do not condemn me; let me know why you contend against me. Does it seem good to you to oppress, to despise the work of your hands and favor the designs of the wicked?
Job 10:1-3

Free Utterances
Frustration and a sense of helplessness can bring anyone to their breaking point.  You may have been there yourself a time or two.  And in these moments the old Adam in us gets the best of us.  We “speak in the bitterness” of our soul. We hurt and in a twisted way want others to hurt so they can sympathize.  We say things which we don’t mean because we can’t find the right words, for so often the right words can’t be found.  Yet it is precisely in these times when we need to look to God, not to place the blame, but for mercy.  The devil, the world, and our own sinful flesh would love nothing more than for us to turn away from God, to blame Him for our troubles and pains, because they know God is the only one who can make a difference. God is the only one who can take away the bitterness and sooth the hurt. We are to take everything to God, we are to lay it all at the foot of the cross, and there cling tightly to our Savior in faith, knowing though we may not have the words, He does. And we know our Shepherd’s voice when He utters freely those sweet words to us “Your sins are forgiven.” (Luke 7:48)
