The Destroyer Will Come
The wicked man writhes in pain all his days, through all the years that are laid up for the ruthless. Dreadful sounds are in his ears; in prosperity the destroyer will come upon him.
Job 15:20-21

The Destroyer Will Come
If you have ever watched a horror movie, you know when the villain is nearby. The music turns ominous and the lighting dims. The tension is ratcheted up as the killer closes in, ever closer. So, for those who are a bit squeamish, you know its time to hide your eyes. But life does not have a soundtrack. We can’t listen for the change in tempo to know things are about to get bad. The dreadful sounds in our ears, are not from a horror movie, instead, they are from this world, and they are anything but dreadful to our sinful ears. The alarm should sound when the temptation comes our way, sirens should be going off as the devil plants lie after lie into our ears. Yet they don’t. Too often we hear the soothing sound of self-gratification as we do as we please. The Word of God is drowned out by the siren song of riches, power, and popularity. Yet the Destroyer will come. In our fallen condition, we cannot escape death, we cannot escape the ravages of sin. And the good news is that even though we cannot do these things there is One who had already done that for us. The Destroyer has come! The destroyer of death, Christ Jesus, has come and laid waste to death as He rose victorious on that first Easter morning. The Destroyer has come and vanquished sin and its effects. He has given us eternal life in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy. The Destroyer has come, and sin, death, and the devil, are defeated. So, we fear them not, for we have Christ, and in Him we have victory!
