A Pledge for You

Lay down a pledge for me with you; who is there who will put up security for me? Since you have closed their hearts to understanding, therefore you will not let them triumph. He who informs against his friends to get a share of their property—the eyes of his children will fail.
Job 17:3-5

A Pledge for You
Lest we ever forget the great many blessings we have by being born today, look to Job.  He feels there is no one in heaven or on earth who can bear witness to his claims of righteousness and innocence, no one to “pledge for me” he turn in hope towards God to be that witness.  The full revelation of God in Christ had not be revealed at this time in history, Job, though faithful and trusting in God simply did not have the full picture.  Yet we today benefit by being born after Jesus had come in the flesh and the New Testament had been written.  We benefit from 2,000 years of faithful study and commentary over God’s Word.  We stand on the shoulders of giants and see clearly God’s salvation for us in Christ.  We do not have to anguish about not having a witness in heaven. We have been assured, “My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. He is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world” (1 John 2:1-2). We know the one who lays down a pledge for us to the Father, is the same who laid down His life so that we might have reconciliation with the Father. “For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all, which is the testimony given at the proper time.” (1 Timothy 2:5-6).
