Peace in the High Heavens
Then Bildad the Shuhite answered and said: Dominion and fear are with God; he makes peace in his high heaven. Is there any number to his armies? Upon whom does his light not arise? How then can man be in the right before God? How can he who is born of woman be pure?

Peace in the High Heavens
In heaven there is peace, the Hebrew word used here in these verses is one you may be familiar with, shalom. The is peace in the high heaven because God is present. Where God is He brings peace. Heaven is pure, purged so long ago of Satan and his fallen angels. This is why we long to be with God. He delivers peace. Here in this life peace so often alludes us. The struggles of living in a broken world marred by sin are real. The devil never rests or tires of seeking to destroy God people. And on this side of heaven peace, shalom, will only ever be temporary. We are sinful people and our sin shatters God’s piece in our lives. Yet God continues to offer His peace. He leads us by His Word to know that He is our Father and in Him we find refuge. In the soothing water of Holy Baptism, we are washed clean and peace like a river flows over us. At God’s holt altar we bend a knee to partake in the feast of heaven, given through the body and blood of our Savior. God never stops giving His peace, because in Christ we have it. And Christ never abandons or forsakes us. And on that final and glorious day of history when Jesus comes again for the last time, all the faithful will know a lasting peace. A peace found in the presence of our Savior which will be unending. The new heavens and the new earth, full of peace, await us. Then we will experience God’s shalom.
