No Hiding Place

For his eyes are on the ways of a man, and he sees all his steps. There is no gloom or deep darkness where evildoers may hide themselves. For God has no need to consider a man further, that he should go before God in judgment.
Job 34:21–23

No Hiding Place
When we were young, the thin bed sheet over our heads was enough to keep the monsters at bay in our rooms at night. If we could not see the danger then it did not exist, at least that was our reasoning.  When we get older, we realize the absurdity of such thinking, at least when it comes to the monsters under our beds.  Yet we go through our lives living as if we can hide our sins from God. As if there was a way in which to conceal our sinful thoughts and deeds.  True, we may be able to hide them form others, and even from ourselves at times, but there is no hiding place from God.  And this is a good thing.  For to hide our sins is to hold on to them.  They need to be exposed to the light and in so doing die. Christ is the light in which our sins are exposed. It is in His light that our wickedness is laid bare. And in doing so He destroys those sins and wipes them away.  His blood drowns them, and they are no more.  We don’t need our sins hidden; we need our sins forgiven. So, no matter how far we try to bury our sins, no matter how dark a corner of our minds we place them, Christ is the light which no darkness can overcome. He finds them and exposes them and us to His light.  And in so doing we are brought to repentance by the Holy Spirit and are forgiven. We need not pull the sheets over our sins; they are the real monsters sent to destroy us. We simply come before our gracious Lord in humble contrition and repentance and forgiveness shines through Him.
