The Works of God
He is the first of the works of God; let him who made him bring near his sword! For the mountains yield food for him where all the wild beasts play.

The Works of God
We often forget about how wild our world really is. Most of us live in urban areas, far removed from the wilderness. Our only interaction with wild animals comes at the zoo. But if you have ever been hiking in the Rockies or camping in Alaska, you quickly become aware of the fact that you are no longer on the top of the food chain. Bear, mountain lions, and other large animals pose real threats to those who go into these places unaware. The works of God in His creation are a great reminder to us that we are not in control. This is what God is telling Job and us. Since sin entered the world we have been unable to live in peace. It is not that God created creatures to torment us, it is that our sin has broken every relationship God created, including our relationship with the rest of creation. Yet despite our reckless abandonment of God’s good gift, God does not abandon us. In Christ God comes to us and restores our broken relationship. Through the Holy Spirit given faith, we are brought into the body of Christ. Through the Word and Sacraments, our faith is strengthened and renewed daily. Through the works of God forgiveness is given.
