Swords of Straw

Though the sword reaches him, it does not avail, nor the spear, the dart, or the javelin. He counts iron as straw, and bronze as rotten wood.
Job 41:26–27

Swords of Straw
We have frail human bodies which break down and age. We face endless ailments and diseases which cause our bodies to deteriorate. The leviathan does not seem to suffer from this problem. He is described as so strong and impressive that no sword or spear could harm him. This is not us. Our mortal bodies face constant physical attacks and it has been this way since the fall (Romans 6:23). Yet we are not without hope. Though our bodies wither our souls are eternal. And because of the love of God, we have the assurance that our souls will live on in heaven until the day they are reunited with our new glorified bodies on the Last Day. And in that eternity, we will walk with God and all the faithful without worry or struggle or strife. Nothing can hurt us for sin, death, and the devil will be vanquished. And even now, as we struggle through this life in the failing mortal bodies, our souls rest secured in the hands of our loving Father for the sake of His only Son who gave His life so we might live. And in the hands of our heavenly Father, the attacks, threats, lies, and deceptions of the devil have as much effect as swords of straw.
