Full of Days
And Job died, an old man, and full of days.
Job 42:17

Full of Days
In a book replete with profound imagery and deep scriptural truths, with verses that have inspired countless hymns and sermons, pages full of suffering and pain, victory and triumph, fantastical beasts, pride, envy, shame, love, trust, and faith, a book so resplendent in God’s love, with all this and more, the book of Job ends with a quite and peaceful last verse. “And Job died, an old man, and full of days.” The book of Job deals with human suffering and a world lost in sin and tormented by the devil. Yet it is a book of hope and love. Throughout these divinely inspired pages God brings forth His truth that Job acknowledges, God is God and though we don’t understand all His ways He does reveal to us His love. On a barren hill in Palestine, thousands of years after Job mankind was shown the extent of that love. Christ Jesus, the only begotten Son of God, died naked hanging from a tree. Yet even at that dark moment God’s people of faith can proclaim with Job, “For I know that my Redeemer lives, and at the last he will stand upon the earth” (19:25). And because Christ stood upon the earth outside that empty tomb our lives, no matter the struggles, will be full of days. Full of days filled with Christ’s unending love for us.
