Salvation Foretold
Concerning this salvation, the prophets who prophesied about the grace that was to be yours searched and inquired carefully, inquiring what person or time the Spirit of Christ in them was indicating when he predicted the sufferings of Christ and the subsequent glories. It was revealed to them that they were serving not themselves but you, in the things that have now been announced to you through those who preached the good news to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven, things into which angels long to look

Salvation Foretold
From the Garden of Eden until John the Baptist, the prophets of God have foretold of Jesus’ great work of rescuing and making new. The seed of the woman crushed the head of the serpent on the cross. This great news comes to the people of God because God sends prophets and preachers. He still tells you about the gifts of the cross and the glory of the resurrection by sending preachers and pastors. Your rescue was made perfect by the suffering and death predicted by the prophets of old. One of our favorite Christmas hymns says, “This is He whom seers in old time chanted of with one accord, whom the voices of the prophets promised in their faithful word. Now he shines, the long expected; Let creation praise its Lord evermore and evermore” (LSB 384:3). Jesus shines as the long expected and foretold Savior of the world.
