And if you call on him as Father who judges impartially according to each one’s deeds, conduct yourselves with fear throughout the time of your exile, knowing that you were ransomed from the futile ways inherited from your forefathers, not with perishable things such as silver or gold, but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without blemish or spot. He was foreknown before the foundation of the world but was made manifest in the last times for the sake of you who through him are believers in God, who raised him from the dead and gave him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God.

To be a Christian means to be set apart. Set apart from this world of sin that would have us believe that what we do doesn’t matter as long as it makes us happy. Live the life you want to and worry not about the consequences we are told. And when we hold the world close to us, when we as Christians do not live a life molded by God and His Word, we adopt these attitudes and customs that draw us further from our Savior. God has called us to a higher calling. We are to love Him above all things and show kindness, generosity, and love to our neighbor. When we become self-absorbed, we forget at what price our relationship with God cost. We do well to remember the cross of Christ, the ransom price our heavenly Father paid for our salvation. This gift is to be cherished because dear saints, you are cherished. You were bought at a price. The blood of Christ has set you free.
