Living Stones
As you come to him, a living stone rejected by men but in the sight of God chosen and precious, you yourselves like living stones are being built up as a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. For it stands in Scripture: “Behold, I am laying in Zion a stone, a cornerstone chosen and precious, and whoever believes in him will not be put to shame.”
1 Peter 2:4–6

Living Stones
Stone is cold and unforgiving. It is without life or love. In our fallen state, we are like these cold lifeless stones. Yet Christ Jesus changes all this for us. Made in the image of God we are the temple in which He desires to dwell. And through His Word and Sacraments, His Holy Spirit brings life into us. His Son Jesus Christ is our cornerstone. God the Father chose Jesus, His own beloved Son to be our Savior. This was always God’s plan. Christ was always going to be our Savior. And now today, God’s Holy Spirit dwells with us in His Church, and all Christians are given direct access to God through His Son as we are brought into the holy priesthood. And just as the priests of the Old Testament offer sacrifices, we Christians now offer our own sacrifices of prayer, praise, and thanksgiving, knowing that through the blood of Christ, they are acceptable to the Father, and we are forgiven on account of Jesus.
