The Purpose of Holiness

Beloved, I urge you as sojourners and exiles to abstain from the passions of the flesh, which wage war against your soul. Keep your conduct among the Gentiles honorable, so that when they speak against you as evildoers, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day of visitation.
1 Peter 2:11–12

The Purpose of Holiness
The devil and the world count your sinful nature as an accomplice to their crimes and battles waged against you. The passions of the flesh rage against us from the inside while the world flaunts itself before our eyes and ears. Thanks be to God that he sends his Holy Spirit to declare Christ’s mercy and love to you and me. It is only by the mercy of Jesus and his work to save us that we can abstain from the passions of the world. It is only the Lord himself that can equip you with the armor and weapons you need to resist and stand firm. It is only the Word of God in our ears and then upon our lips that saves us from this present darkness. It is this Word of God that enables and equips us to good work. It is your God that makes you shine in the presence of others that they may give thanks to God with us on his visitation. Thanks be to God that he has rescued, protected, and equipped his own people.
