Your Calling and Election
Therefore, brothers, be all the more diligent to confirm your calling and election, for if you practice these qualities you will never fall. For in this way there will be richly provided for you an entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Your Calling and Election
Peter isn’t calling on you to save yourself. The Holy Spirit has already done that by washing you in Jesus’ blood at your baptism. He has planted faith in your heart by the preaching of the Gospel. He surrounds you with the good things of heaven and the righteousness of Jesus. Now your faith grabs ahold of all the Jesus it can get. Your faith plunges you into the Word and its desire is for the Church and your brothers and sisters in Christ. Because you have faith you are made partakers of holiness and able to supplement your faith with virtue and knowledge and self-control and steadfastness and godliness and love. The Lord provides for you. He showers it upon you. We rejoice in these good gifts of our God.
