Necessity of This Reminder
Therefore I intend always to remind you of these qualities, though you know them and are established in the truth that you have. I think it right, as long as I am in this body, to stir you up by way of reminder, since I know that the putting off of my body will be soon, as our Lord Jesus Christ made clear to me. And I will make every effort so that after my departure you may be able at any time to recall these things.

Necessity of This Reminder
Peter reminds us that our spiritual life in Christ is not a solo endeavor. The Christian life is lived in community with other Christians and is built on the foundation of Jesus. Thus, we live together with Jesus in righteousness and forgiveness. He reminds us that as he can, we also should remind one another and support one another in our life together in Christ. We do so by reminder of the Word of God and the gifts of forgiveness and salvation. We do so knowing that we are all sinners and live by the grace of our God. We use the very gifts of the Holy Spirit to sustain us as his holy people. The people of God encourage one another to attend church and Bible study. The people of God show concern for our neighbor when they are not present for the divine service or for study and fellowship. To what end? Peter wants you to be strengthened in the Lord Jesus and to be prepared for every attack and situation in this world. Our help comes from Jesus. He is our foundation, our righteousness, and our defender.
