In Deed and Truth

By this we know love, that he laid down his life for us, and we ought to lay down our lives for the brothers. But if anyone has the world’s goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God’s love abide in him? Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth.

In Deed and Truth
Jesus said that it was the greatest love the world could ever and would ever see: his crucifixion. He laid down his life in a perfect expression of his love for you and me. We see the very essence of God in the cross of Jesus. The summary of the whole Law is seen as the perfect fulfillment of that Law. The blood that was shed on the cross forgives and makes righteous. It transforms us from death into life. So, we who are alive in Christ now reach out to our neighbor with help and support. We have been filled with the truth that has come down from heaven. We have been transformed to be like Christ. The greatest love that ever could have been is now made manifest in your bodies. Now we deny ourselves and bear the burdens of our neighbor. Now our love is not only in word but also in action. The good works that you do have been designed by your God to show forth his love to the world. Designed and directed by God, the world sees, hears, and experiences the love of the cross.
