Mercy Received
Yet the number of the children of Israel shall be like the sand of the sea, which cannot be measured or numbered. And in the place where it was said to them, “You are not my people,” it shall be said to them, “Children of the living God.” And the children of Judah and the children of Israel shall be gathered together, and they shall appoint for themselves one head. And they shall go up from the land, for great shall be the day of Jezreel. Say to your brothers, “You are my people,” and to your sisters, “You have received mercy.”

Mercy Received
Like the people of Hosea’s day, we are unfaithful to God and His will for our lives. We act as Gomer, living a sinful and adulterous life, as we chase after false idols which push aside our Lord in our lives. And we deserve God’s wrath, yet like the people of Hosea’s day, God still loves us and desires a relationship with us. We have the blessings of forgiveness. In our sin, we are right to be called those who are not God’s people, yet on the cross, Christ reconciled us to the Father taking our sins upon Himself and exchanging them with His righteousness. So now in faith, as the waters of holy Baptism wash over us, we are given the right to be called children of the living God. In Christ, we are His people, and He is our God. We have received mercy.
