Up! Up!

Up! Up! Flee from the land of the north, declares the LORD. For I have spread you abroad as the four winds of the heavens, declares the LORD. Up! Escape to Zion, you who dwell with the daughter of Babylon. For thus said the LORD of hosts, after his glory sent me to the nations who plundered you, for he who touches you touches the apple of his eye: “Behold, I will shake my hand over them, and they shall become plunder for those who served them. Then you will know that the LORD of hosts has sent me. Sing and rejoice, O daughter of Zion, for behold, I come and I will dwell in your midst, declares the LORD. And many nations shall join themselves to the LORD in that day, and shall be my people. And I will dwell in your midst, and you shall know that the LORD of hosts has sent me to you. And the LORD will inherit Judah as his portion in the holy land, and will again choose Jerusalem.” Be silent, all flesh, before the LORD, for he has roused himself from his holy dwelling.
Zechariah 2:6–13

Up! Up!
We dwell with the enemy. We are the people that have been scattered because of our sin. The Lord knows about our dwelling place. He is aware that we are scattered among our enemies. He always knows where his people are, and he always hears the voice of their cries. This is the God that does not stay exalted in faraway places. This is the God that comes down to save and to rescue. This is the God that dwells where his people are and suffers with them. This is the God that humiliates himself to win the battle against death and the devil for you. He calls you the apple of his eye and he touches you—that you would be holy like he is holy and that you would be righteous like he is righteous. By the suffering and death of Jesus, he makes you his holy people. The Lord claims you as his inheritance even as you become his people and receive his inheritance. The Lord delights in you and rejoices in you. He dwells where you are and with you. So, sing and dance, Oh Daughter of Zion. The Lord has made you his own. Mount Zion is your refuge and your home. God has made an escape for you.
