A Flying Scroll
Again I lifted my eyes and saw, and behold, a flying scroll! And he said to me, “What do you see?” I answered, “I see a flying scroll. Its length is twenty cubits, and its width ten cubits.” Then he said to me, “This is the curse that goes out over the face of the whole land. For everyone who steals shall be cleaned out according to what is on one side, and everyone who swears falsely shall be cleaned out according to what is on the other side. I will send it out, declares the LORD of hosts, and it shall enter the house of the thief, and the house of him who swears falsely by my name. And it shall remain in his house and consume it, both timber and stones.”

A Flying Scroll
The flying scroll is an odd image from the Bible. But we should not ignore it or lose sight of its significance. There is still a God in heaven who is our God, and He is a jealous God. He will not tolerate sin. The punishment for the thief and the liar are our punishments, death! God’s curse rests on all who fail to keep His Law perfectly, and none of us have kept it. But in Christ, that curse is removed. For “Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us”. How blessed we are that our debt was canceled by having it nailed to the cross! Our Lord Jesus Christ has removed that curse and we thank Him for that. For if He had not the curse would still rest on us because of our sin. So let us share this good news and plant the seeds of faith, so that through the power of the Holy Sprit the curse may be lifted from every person’s heart.
