The Ease of Idolatry
Then the angel who talked with me came forward and said to me, “Lift your eyes and see what this is that is going out.” And I said, “What is it?” He said, “This is the basket that is going out.” And he said, “This is their iniquity in all the land.” And behold, the leaden cover was lifted, and there was a woman sitting in the basket! And he said, “This is Wickedness.” And he thrust her back into the basket, and thrust down the leaden weight on its opening. Then I lifted my eyes and saw, and behold, two women coming forward! The wind was in their wings. They had wings like the wings of a stork, and they lifted up the basket between earth and heaven. Then I said to the angel who talked with me, “Where are they taking the basket?” He said to me, “To the land of Shinar, to build a house for it. And when this is prepared, they will set the basket down there on its base.”

The Ease of Idolatry
It is not very difficult for us to stray from God’s Word. We find it most tempting to go against His first commandment. We are quick to make gods of anything and everything. Money, fame, relationships, family, work, you name it and we will make a god out of it. This ever-present temptation to idolatry came to the people of Jerusalem who had worked so hard at rebuilding the temple as well. God made it clear that idolatry had no place among them; that wicked woman had to be carted off to Babylon. Idolatry has no place among us either. “You shall have no other gods”. We were baptized in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The triune God has given us life and salvation. It is Him and only Him who we worship and serve! We give all praise, honor, and glory to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and shall be forever.
