Death Changes Everything

Or do you not know, brothers—for I am speaking to those who know the law—that the law is binding on a person only as long as he lives? For a married woman is bound by law to her husband while he lives, but if her husband dies she is released from the law of marriage. Accordingly, she will be called an adulteress if she lives with another man while her husband is alive. But if her husband dies, she is free from that law, and if she marries another man she is not an adulteress.
Romans 7:1-3

Death Changes Everything
The law demands obedience. We are all under it, that is, as long we live. The laws apply only to living people. When one dies, the law no longer has dominion over them. This is because death changes everything. This is so not only in a physical reality but in a spiritual one as well. Death changes everything. Our sins, the unwillingness, and inability of us to uphold God’s Law, condemn us to death. We are dead men walking, and that is how it would have remained if not for another death. The cross claimed the life of our Savior Jesus Christ and with Him our sins. They were judged, sentenced, and put to death with Christ. Death changes everything. And in Baptism, we are joined in a death like His so that we are assuredly joined in a resurrection like His. We have been changed by death; Christ’s death has set us free. So, we no longer fear sin, death, and the devil and their claim on our lives, for Christ Jesus has redeemed us with His holy, precious blood and with His innocent suffering and death. Christ has changed everything!
