Submit
Wives, submit to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord. Husbands, love your wives, and do not be harsh with them
Col 3:18–19

Submit
These verses have been derided and misused so often that many Christians simply avoid them. But God has given them to us for our good, and it behooves us to listen. To submit simply means to put oneself under the mission of another. Both husband and wife are to submit to Christ just as He submitted to His Father. Even as a boy, Jesus submitted to His parents. Working together in harmony, as husband and wife should do, necessitates that one lead and another follow, much like members of an athletic team do to achieve united success. Husbands must lead the way in love, just as Jesus leads the way in His love for us. In the Garden, God set Adam up as the head of the family. This means man exists for the good of the woman as much as she was created for his good. But no man is his own authority. His head is Christ. Man is not independent. He is not the boss. His headship is normed and governed by the headship of Christ. Headship is not a license to do whatever you want. It is a calling to do what others around you need. And so we all turn to Christ as forgiven and redeemed children, following Him under His mission. And in doing so our relationships reflect Christ and His Church.
