The Lordship of Christ
And as Jesus taught in the temple, he said, “How can the scribes say that the Christ is the son of David? David himself, in the Holy Spirit, declared, “‘The Lord said to my Lord, “Sit at my right hand, until I put your enemies under your feet.” ’ David himself calls him Lord. So how is he his son?” And the great throng heard him gladly.

Jesus poses a profound question to the scribes: "How can the scribes say that the Christ is the son of David? David himself, in the Holy Spirit, declared, 'The Lord said to my Lord, 'Sit at my right hand, until I put your enemies under your feet.'' David himself calls him Lord. So how is he his son?" This passage reveals the divine mystery of Christ’s identity. As Christians who trust and believe in the inerrancy of Scripture, we affirm that Jesus is both true God and true man, the fulfillment of Old Testament prophecy. David, inspired by the Holy Spirit, recognized the Messiah as his Lord, pointing to the divine nature of Christ. Jesus is not merely a descendant of David but is the eternal Son of God who reigns at the right hand of the Father. This passage invites us to contemplate the majesty and authority of Christ. He is Lord over all, our Redeemer and King. In faith, we can acknowledge His Lordship, and in so doing, we are shown our place in God’s redemptive plan. Let us humbly bow before Him, recognizing that our salvation and hope rest in Jesus, our eternal Lord.
