And in his teaching he said, “Beware of the scribes, who like to walk around in long robes and like greetings in the marketplaces and have the best seats in the synagogues and the places of honor at feasts, who devour widows’ houses and for a pretense make long prayers. They will receive the greater condemnation.”

Guarding Against Hypocrisy
Jesus warns His disciples to beware of the scribes who seek honor and recognition, yet devour widows' houses and make long prayers for show. This passage calls us to examine our own hearts and actions. Being a Christian does not make us immune to the temptation of seeking personal glory under the guise of piety. The scribes' behavior reflects a deeper issue of hypocrisy, where outward religiosity masks inner corruption. Jesus' rebuke highlights the importance of sincerity in our faith. Our actions should reflect a genuine love for God and neighbor, not a desire for human praise. As those washed clean in the blood of the Lamb, we are called to uphold the truth of the Gospel in both word and deed. This means serving others selflessly, not for accolades, but out of a Christ-like love. Let us ask the Holy Spirit to guard our hearts against hypocrisy and to lead us in humble service. May our lives be a testament to God's grace, pointing others to the Savior, who alone deserves all glory and honor.
