Devotion to the Lord

32 I want you to be free from anxieties. The unmarried man is anxious about the things of the Lord, how to please the Lord. 33 But the married man is anxious about worldly things, how to please his wife, 34 and his interests are divided. And the unmarried or betrothed woman is anxious about the things of the Lord, how to be holy in body and spirit. But the married woman is anxious about worldly things, how to please her husband. 35 I say this for your own benefit, not to lay any restraint upon you, but to promote good order and to secure your undivided devotion to the Lord.
1 Corinthians 7:32-35

Devotion to the Lord

Paul wants you to be free from your anxieties. Jesus wants you to be free from your anxieties. God wants you to cast your worries on him. This is quite the opposite of the devil. He wants you to carry your anxieties around with you so that they tear you up inside. The devil would have you tear up your relationships and your marriage. Not so with Jesus. He binds you together by the work of his Holy Spirit. He sends his Word to you. This Jesus forgives you. He takes your guilt and your shame to his cross with your sin in order to defeat every enemy against you. He is victorious. He takes on your enemies and sacrifices everything he has to have you as his own. You become his own. You are made new in him. Your life is made sure by his death.
