Swing the Sword
5 Examine yourselves, to see whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Or do you not realize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?—unless indeed you fail to meet the test! 6 I hope you will find out that we have not failed the test.

Swing the Sword
In the name of the Father and the +Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen. The Christian faith is tested and disciplined. The gift is given, but the enemies of God are trying to steal, pillage, and destroy. The Lord fits you with armor, but he also bids you swing the sword he has put in your hand. That sword is the Word of God. This sword is powerful because God’s Word is always performative. God always keeps his promises. He goes to the cross and defeats the devil and death. He forgives your sins. He promises to be with you to the end of the age. He is with you in the preaching of his Word and he dwells in the midst of you in Sacrament. He strengthens your arm for the battle as he fights with you. In the name of +Jesus. Amen.
