Day and Night

They meet with darkness in the daytime and grope at noonday as in the night.

Day and Night
Two things could not be more opposite one another than the day and the night.  Each one brings its own pleasures and pains.  Each one its own unique qualities.  The first thing God creates for mankind in Genesis 1:1 is the day and the night, and it was good.  Yet since the fall these good things have become sources of sorrow and fear.  We dread the coming of the day when it means more backbreaking toil for little or no pay.  We fear the night and what lurks in its shadows.  What God gave for good we have used for ill.  Our own wisdom has darkened our view of God and obscured His truth.  The Light of the world, Jesus Christ, is lost in the darkness of our sins.  And so, the wisdom of the world and our own prideful selves has made us, “meet with darkness in the daytime and grope at noonday as in the night.”  It is only when the light of Christ shines fourth and pierces the darkness of our sin-stained eyes that we truly see our Savior.  It is only in faith that we can see His Word as “a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” (Psalm 119:105) And being made to know the truth we don’t fear the night, for “the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” (John 1:5)  The darkness of Golgotha was destroyed by the light of the empty tomb!
Jesu Christ is the Light of the world, the light no darkness can overcome.
