Broken Arrows
For the arrows of the Almighty are in me; my spirit drinks their poison; the terrors of God are arrayed against me.

Broken Arrows
Job is in distress. He has not been privy to the conversation between God and the devil. He cannot see how much God truly loves him and the confidence He has in him. Right now, Job only sees God as his enemy, marshaling troops against him to utterly destroy him. Job feels only the poison arrows of grief and death, pain and sorrow. And when we face the slings and arrows of this world, we often attribute them wrongly to God as well. We too often lose sight of the big picture and miss the forest through the trees. Yes, pain and suffering do come, and yes God even allows it for a time. But not to destroy us but to build us up. (1 Peter 4:12-19) We know Christ suffered much more for us so that we could be reconciled to the Father. Therefore, understand that the arrows which pierce you, God in Christ has broken. “But even if you should suffer for righteousness' sake, you will be blessed. Have no fear of them, nor be troubled,” (1 Peter 3:14).
